STRATFORD — Jamie Sayen has long advocated for protecting the wildlands of northern New England and promoting a diversified economy based on value-added jobs that are also environmentally friendly.

He now has written a new book, “Children of the Northern Forest” that outlines a brief history of the forests of northern New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont and the changes that have taken place over the last 30 years. In the book, he calls for creating an 8.7 million acre wildland reserve containing the headwaters of the region’s great rivers including the Androscoggin and Connecticut Rivers in New Hampshire.
