GORHAM — Voters in the Gorham-Randolph-Shelburne school district approved a $10,043,491 operating budget on March 7, after defeating an advisory motion to add money to the budget to cover some of the costs Gorham high schoolers pay to play hockey.

Article 9, the petitioned school warrant article, submitted by Christina Zornio, the mother of a high school hockey player who also is the Gorham town clerk, was an advisory measure to test the mood of school district voters. The petition asked if the GRS School District will cover the full cost of tuition for all grade 9 through 12 students who choose to play on the combined Berlin-Gorham high school hockey team with the BHS Mountaineers.
