BERLIN — Bishop Brady's Liz Rivera limited Berlin to just one run on three hits, helping the Green Giants to an 8-1 victory over the Mountaineers in softball in Berlin last Tuesday.
Brady improved to 7-0 with the victory, while Berlin is struggling at 1-5.
Senior Mountaineer, Shaeleigh Valliere took to the mound for Berlin and found herself in hot water early, walking the first two batters and the third getting an infield hit to load the bases with nobody out. A hit with an error got a couple runs in and an RBI ground out for Brady's Maddie Rines put the visitors on top 3-0.
Berlin responded by plating its only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Jessica Vien doubled to lead things off and eventually scored on an Alyson Blanchette RBI ground out, making it 3-1.
Brady got an unearned run from Caitlyn Mallahan in the top of the fourth inning.
Things stayed close until the Green Giants broke the game open in the top of the seventh inning. Two hits, an error and a two RBI double from Rines chased Valliere from the hill. Sophomore Sam McCann came on to get the final two outs.
Offensively, Berlin could not get anything going against Rivera. Rivera mixed her pitches well and allowed just two other hits to Hailey Knapp and Jillian Lefebvre. The right-hander walked two and struck out four in going the distance.
Valliere allowed eight hits, walked four and struck out one. Six of Brady's eight runs were unearned as the Mounties had four errors defensively.
