Council approves cost items for police contract

BERLIN – The city council Monday night unanimously approved the cost items for a new two-year contract for the police union.The contract provides for two percent raises per year. But Mayor Paul Grenier said the union has agreed to switch to a cheaper health insurance plan and the savings will more than cover the cost of the contract.For the two years, the city expects to save $140,620 in health insurance costs.
