Gorham parent proposing joint Berlin-Gorham boys ice hockey team
By Debra Thornblad
GORHAM – Paul Schoenbeck came before the GRS Cooperative School Board at the last meeting to ask if the board would approve a joint Berlin-Gorham boys ice hockey team.
Getting the approval of both school boards is the first step in process. Schoenbeck will also seek the approval of the Berlin School Board. If both boards approve it, it will then go to the NHIAA for approval.
Presently there is a joint Berlin-Gorham girls ice hockey team and Schoenbeck has two daughters paying on it. There are a total of three girls from Gorham playing on that team.
His son is in the eighth grade and has been playing hockey. He will be in high school next year and would like to continue playing, Schoenbeck explained.
Now that Berlin is in division 3, the possibility of a joint team has opened up, Superintentent Paul Bousquet explained.
The GRS Board approved the request. It’s expected the issue will be on the next Berlin school board’s agenda.
